ACTIVE OLDER ADULTS

GROUP FITNESS CLASSES

Going StrongM/W/F 9 a.m.

This class offers a mix of low-impact cardio, light resistance training, and slow stretching with workouts designed to meet the needs of active older adults.  Modifications are provided by the instructor to accommodate all fitness levels., and floor work is optional.  Expect to use are variety of strength training equipment such as weights, bands, and stability balls. 

Silver&Fit®ExperienceT/Th 1 p.m.

Designed for moderately active older adults who experience some form of exercise one to two days per week.   The focus is on flexibility, joint stability, balance, coordination, agility, reaction time, muscular strength, and cardiovascular endurance.  Most of the workout is performed from  a chair. 

 

AQUATICS CLASSES

Twinges in the Hinges (traditional)M/T/Th 9 a.m.

If you  are looking for a gentle, low-impact workout or you suffer from     arthritis pain, an injury, or soreness from fibromyalgia, this class is for you!  These pool workouts are developed to help you build cardiovascular and muscle endurance while stretching the muscles and working the joints. 

Twinges in the Hinges (dynamic)M/W/F 1 p.m.

This class applies the same principles as the traditional Twinges class but with a workout that changes in nearly every class.  The dynamic class is higher in   intensity than the traditional class but will feel like a lower intensity water aerobics class. 

 

PERSONAL TRAINING

Customized fitness plans!  Our personal trainers will develop   training plans to meet your unique fitness goals and needs.  Whether you are just getting started, recovering from an  injury or illness, or just need some instruction, we will work with you to achieve your goals with a pace and plan that is right for YOU. 


 

 

POOL CLOSURES & RULES

At the Y, your family's health and well-being is our primary concern. That's why we adhere to the following safety procedures when thunder, lightning and other inclement weather strikes near our aquatics center. These procedures are recommended by the National Lightning Safety Institute & Redwoods Insurance Group.

Inclement Weather Pool Closure Policy

  • When thunder and lightning is first noticed, pool activities will be suspended and all aquatics facilities will be evacuated until 30 minutes after the last sign of thunder or lightning. The distance from a facility to an approaching thunderstorm can be five to eight miles away, but lightning can strike from a much farther distance.
  • The entire pool area will close.
  • All aquatics programs scheduled any time during the closure will be cancelled, including swim team, swim lessons and water aerobics classes. The Y does not guarantee make-ups for missed classes due to inclement weather pool closures, however we will work to provide you with at least one option for a make-up class. All Participants will receive a voucher for any class that is cancelled by the Y due to pool closures.
  • Make-ups are made by placing swimmers in pre-existing classes of similar skill levels.  Participants can schedule make-ups by contacting Aquatics Director Mandy Darby at 570-748-6727, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
  • Please note, vouchers are not given out for personal absences.
  • The pool area will be reopened 30 minutes after the last sign of thunder or lightning.

FAQ's

Q:  Why weren't we informed about the closure before we arrived at the Y? 
A:  We apologize for any inconvenience. We do make every attempt to reach participants when there is an unexpected closure, but many times the nature of the closure is "last-minute" and may occur while you are already in transit.

Q:  If the pool opens up in the middle of a lesson time, will the lesson take place?
A:  No, unless we are able to get the full lesson time in, we will not have the lesson that day/evening. This includes starting even as little as 5 minutes late.

Q:  Why do we close down for thunderstorms?
A:  For the safety of the participants, the pools must be closed down. This is a policy that ties back to our insurance carrier and our concern for our members/program participants.

Q:  What areas of the pool close? 
A:   Unfortunately we have to close all areas. As the pool deck is closed, that includes all components of the deck for which our lifeguards are responsible. Please note that the locker room doors leading out to the pool deck will be locked when the pool is closed.

Q:  If my lesson ends early, do I get a voucher?
A:  Vouchers are only issued if the pools close within the first 15 minutes of class.

FACILITY AMENITIES

Lock Haven Area YMCA offers a wide variety of programming with a focus on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility in a spacious facility, available for use by all members. Read more about what the Y facility offers members:

Aquatics Center  Traditional Pool consists of a four-lane, 25 yard pool; carefully monitored chemistry and pool maintenance; lap, recreational and program space for family, friends and community partners.

Gymnasium  Full size gymnasium with integrated basketball equipment for member and program use.

Wellness Center  Cardio Room with theater system TV's, and innovative equipment such as Expresso Virtual Reality Upright Bikes, Adaptive Motion Trainers, Elliptical Cross Trainers, recumbants bikes, and treadmills.  Fitness circuit strength machines provide a simple, non-intimidating option for older active adults, youth and those new to fitness. The strength circuit can also be a challenging and effective workout for all fitness levels with state-of-the-art machines such as the assisted pullup/dip, torsion rotation, glute press, and many more!

Free-Weight Room  Fully equipped with York barbells, dumbells, plates, cable machine with various attachments, squat racks, Smith machine, leg press, various bench options, and more. Must be 15 or older.

Group Fitness Studio Free member programs include but are not limited to a robust schedule of Group Fitness Classes including yoga classes, crdio fussion, lunch crunch, Silver&Fit Experience, Shape it Up, Circit Blast, UrbanKick, and many more! 

Sauna Warm, dry heat sauna with multiple seating, glass window for your safety. Must be 18 or older.

Locker Rooms  Mens and womens locker rooms, seperate mens and womens private locker rooms, and family changing room.  Lockers available for free daily use or may be rented long-term.  

Child Watch Babysitting service for children ages 6 months to 7 years. Toys, books, cubbies and open play area are provided, as well as story and craft times.
